A good team effort, that fell just short.
RCC U11B bowled first and the team put in a very credible performance in the field to restrict the opposition to 96 runs. The bowling, from all 9 of the bowlers used, was accurate and only 7 wides were called during the innings. The opening pair of Sam C and Jack F set the standard and Spencer B were 3 down after 6 overs for not many. Thereafter the bowlers were rotated and kept the batting side quiet, until the last 3 overs when the Spencer B number 9 successfully hit out. The fielding was good with no obvious misses and some good catches taken and a very good run out by Sam C.
Our batting was a story of a number of good starts, but no single batsman managed to build their innings to over 20 which is what we needed, as it was we kept up with the run rate but simply lost wickets at the wrong time. Rohan B, Jack F and Andrew K all started well and hit some very pleasing shots. In the end we were all out for 88 in the last over.
This was in reflection probably a game that we should have won. The team spirit was good and the team helped each other and their captain. If there are a couple of things that we can take from the game to work on:
Call early and loud, run hard.
If you are saving the single make sure you are close enough to save the single.
Play each ball on its merit, just because you don't score off 2 balls don't immediately try and whack the next one.
